In 1989, Marrickville Community Training Centre Inc (MTC Australia) began assisting disadvantaged people to move into meaningful employment. We started with a General Manager, an Assistant Manager and a Bookkeeper.
One of our first programs was LEAP (Land Environment and Protection Program) – an early version of Work for the Dole. From here, we developed a number of youth support programs and employment projects, before establishing ourselves as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Our continued success in these areas has enabled us to fund further community initiatives, such as Minto Access Point, Warakirri College and MTC NILS.
Growth and development
Between 2006 and 2009 we won contracts for the delivery of the Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP), Job Network, Personal Support Programme (PSP) and Community Work Coordinator (CWC - Work for the Dole), leading to growth across Sydney’s metro. By the end of 2009, MTC Australia had 190 staff.
In 2009 we officially became MTC Work Solutions. 2009 to 2011 were big years, as Job Services Australia was created from the merging of CWC, Job Network, Job Placement, Employment and Training (JPET) program and PSP. We successfully tendered for and won more new business, leading to 110 new staff and 10 new sites.
2010 saw the emergence of MTC Recruitment Limited, and in 2013, MTC Australia has developed interstate, with the expansion of the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program (formally LLNP) to Adelaide and Melbourne.
In 2015 we were registered by ASIC as MTC Australia Limited (a public company limited by guarantee) trading as MTC Australia.
Today, we have close to 500 staff across 28 sites.
