Meet Our People: Natalija Gicevska

Up next in the Meet Our People series is Natalija Gicevska, our Program Manager for the No Interest Loans Scheme and Youth Frontiers!

Where did you work prior to MTC?

Prior to working for MTC, I was the Community Development Coordinator for a not-for-profit organisation in Villawood NSW. I helped to run various programs for everyone in the community, but particularly assisting people living with addiction or mental health disorders, youth and young parents.

What made you want to come and work at MTC?

Our funding contract changed, and we had to cut back on the majority of our Youth Programs. I am really passionate about helping young people within our community so I started looking for a role where the main focus would be assisting young people and the Program Manager role with MTC popped up on SEEK – it sounded exactly like what I was looking for, so I took a leap 🙂

What are you responsible for in your role at MTC?

I manage the Youth Frontiers Mentoring Program and I also manage the No Interest Loans Scheme program.

The programs are vastly different but within both programs I do my best to support my staff and our clients.

More recently I’ve had the pleasure to be involved in the Mindfulness Sessions at MTC, which has been a great experience for me as I am really passionate about advocating for people to look after their mental health.

Tell us a bit about your life outside of work

Outside of work I really enjoy spending time with friends and family, as well as travelling. I love to go out to restaurants and enjoy great food as well as a glass of Pinot Noir or two. I got engaged late last year so recently I have been spending lots of time on Pinterest planning my dream wedding.

What did you do to pass the time in quarantine?

I have been back in the office for a while now but when we were in the lockdown I binged on lots of TV shows and lots of long FaceTime Sessions with my friends and family.

Are there any TV shows or books that you’ve seen during quarantine that you’d recommend?

Yes! Where do I even begin?

At the moment, I am obsessed with Yellowstone which you can watch on Stan – Kevin Costner is one of my favourite male actors and I really like the story line.

I also recently finished The Politician which again is on Netflix and really enjoyed that. It’s a little quirky, but the cast is fantastic and the show has a great soundtrack as well.

But if I have to pick a favourite, it would be the Big Bang Theory – I’ve watched all seasons multiple times. I find it really uplifting and an easy watch.

My all-time favourite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and would recommend that everyone reads that book at least once in their lifetime.

The last book I read was The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris – this was really confronting to read but it was really interesting and I’d also recommend that for anyone who likes books that are based on true events.
