This week’s edition of Meet Our People heads behind the scenes of MTC to our IT team, where we get to know one of our superstar IT Engineers, Waeel Yousif!
Where did you work prior to MTC?
Prior to MTC, I worked in the IT Support team for David Jones.
What made you want to come and work at MTC?
I arrived in Australia in 2008, being in a different country and trying to fit in a different culture was challenging. MTC was the organisation that assisted me when I was a customer in 2009 by providing me with skills and advice I needed to be able to study and work. I do believe in MTC’s mission statement and the feeling of helping people who are in a similar situation that I was in 12 years ago. It is incredibly rewarding. I appreciate the work that MTC has done for the community around me, and to be a part of it has enlightened me to know that I can be a part of a team that gives back.
What are you responsible for in your role at MTC?
As the IT engineer, I provide IT support to all MTC Australia and MTC Recruitment sites, as well as each Warakirri College campus.
My tasks are to monitor and maintain the company computer systems and installations, configure hardware and software, and solve technical issues as they arise. I’s also involved in IT projects.
Tell us a bit about your life outside of work.
I am a family-oriented man that appreciates and enjoys the outdoor lifestyle, such as fishing and sports such as soccer. I also take pride in my health physically and mentally by attending the gym.
What are some of your goals (work or personal) for 2021?
To complete my Microsoft certificate and continue extending my professional development as it will benefit myself, workplace, and work colleagues.
Are there any TV shows, movies or books that you’ve seen or read recently that you’d recommend?
There is a TV show that I am currently watching called ’24’ – there are nine seasons. I’ve completed three seasons, and I find this show very addictive and bingeable.
