Thomas came to Australia from Scotland when he was 10 years old, and during his professional career, he has spent decades working on railways with diesel locomotives and electric trains.
Prior to enrolling with MTC’s Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program in September 2020, he had been out of work for two years, and joined the program in the hopes of improving his computer skills, originally for the purpose of applying for jobs online.
Well, it didn’t take long for Thomas to capitalise on these new skills. Within a few short months, he successfully found a job working at a recycling depot, which he finds ‘a funny coincidence’, as he was studying waste and recycling at the time! As an added bonus, this topic has helped him hit the ground running in his new role.
What’s impressive about Thomas, however, is that this new job has not diminished his desire to learn. He has continued to study in our SEE program to further his digital skills, which will help him at home, as well as in the workplace.
Well done, Thomas!
