The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification is targeted at early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in the early childhood education and care sector. Successful completion of this course may lead to career opportunities as a centre manager or authorised supervisor (children’s services), childhood educator, children’s services director/manager, childhood educator, early childhood educator or children’s services coordinator.
Who is it For?
There are no entry requirements for this course, although we recommend that students have language, literacy and numeracy skills at ACSF Level 3–4.
How it Works
The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is delivered via a combination of face-to-face and distance-based learning, and is comprised of 23 core and 5 elective units (28 units of competency in total).
• Work legally and ethically • Identify and respond to children and young people at risk • Ensure the health and safety of children • Promote and provide healthy food and drinks • Provide care for babies and toddlers • Provide care for children • Use an approved learning framework to guide practice • Develop cultural competence • Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety • Develop positive and respectful relationships with children • Nurture creativity in children • Promote children’s agency • Analyse information to inform learning • Design and implement the curriculum to foster children’s learning and development • Implement strategies for the inclusion of all children • Establish and implement plans for developing cooperative behaviour • Work in partnership with families to provide appropriate education and care for children • Facilitate compliance in education and care services • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children • Maintain work health and safety • Embed sustainable practices in service operations • Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting • Support the holistic development and wellbeing of the child in early childhood
• Participate in work health and safety • Reflect on and improve own professional practice • Support children to connect with their world • Develop and implement policy • Provide experiences to support children’s play and learning
