Lai Choi came to MTC Australia when she was 62 years old. She had been struggling to find a job as she has difficulties hearing and had some issues with her back. Lai’s work coach, Roy, quickly realised that she would be a fantastic candidate for the Australian Retail Association (ARA) program, which helps people like Lai, who are facing problems when returning to the workforce, to get their foot in the door with education, training, certification, and a work placement.
Lai spent four weeks training in a classroom environment for her Certificate II in Retail Services, where she was taught the skills and knowledge required to excel as a team member. After she had completed her training, Lai commenced a two week work placement at a highly renowned Emirates restaurant, The Bistro by Wolfgang Puck, where she worked as a kitchen hand.
Unfortunately, after her first week at The Bistro, Lai suffered an injury outside of work and fractured her wrist, making her unable to continue her work placement. However, once her wrist had healed The Bistro allowed Lai to complete her second week of work placement. The manager at The Bistro was extremely impressed by Lai’s work ethic and determination and offered Lai a full-time position at The Bistro!
Lai has worked at The Bistro for over two years, and we are so happy for her.
