Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) student, Ghaidaa Atwan, came to Australia from Iraq at the age of 13 as a refugee in hopes of finding a better life.
Ghaidaa felt that her English ability was limited and she was unable to communicate at an advanced level, so her main goal was to improve her reading, writing and speaking, and to excel at computer operation so that she could find suitable employment in Australia.
During her time here, Ghaidaa Ghaidaa completed a Diploma in Business Administration and Certificate II in Business. in the hopes of finding an office administration role. Ghaidaa also has a passion for community service and was interested in working for a community centre that supports refugees.
Ghaidaa’s consultant from AMES Australia referred her to our SEE/Job Skills class, where she expressed her enthusiasm for finding employment and passion for community service. During her time at MTC, Ghaidaa’s trainer mentored her and supported her with job applications, job search skills, resume and cover letter writing, as well as goal orientation and confidence building.
Through this mentoring and support, she was able to discover a path to employment that would take advantage of both her office administration skills and desire for community service, finding a job as an employment consultant for AMES Australia.
Ghaidaa is now proudly working full-time and is doing something that she is passionate about, which is helping people in need. Congratulations, Ghaidaa!
