This course gives you a solid grounding in general office administration and the chance to get your foot in the door through a range of junior positions. In a friendly and supportive environment, you’ll gain basic practical skills and fundamental operational knowledge.
This nationally accredited qualification will prepare you for entry-level roles such as administrative assistant, data entry operator, information desk clerk, office junior and receptionist.
This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.
Who Is It For?
This course is available to all students under the Smart and Skilled initiative of NSW State Training. To be eligible, you need to:
- Be aged 15 or older
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder
- Live or work in NSW
- Have left school and have no previous qualifications at Certificate IV or higher.
Given the technical nature of this course, we recommend students have language, literacy and numeracy skills at a minimum of Year 10 level or equivalent to Certificate II level. You will be required to undertake a pre-training assessment prior to enrolment to ensure you have adequate skills to undertake the course.
You will require the Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills to:
- Conduct basic internet research
- Engage in online learning, including video conferencing sessions
- Create simple word-processed documents
- Read and comprehend simple written documents and numerical texts.

How It Works
This course is delivered online, helping students stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic and fit their study around other commitments.
Duration and Delivery Mode: This course is delivered online through Microsoft Teams and is scheduled for 25 hours per week (Monday – Friday, five hours per day) for a total of twelve weeks, with an additional week for reassessment opportunities. It will include:
- Two days of facilitated virtual learning, 5 hours per day
- Approximately 10-15 hours per week of self-paced learning through our online learning platform
- One 20-minute virtual coaching session per week.
Learner IT Requirements: Customers must have access to a computer or laptop, word processing software and the internet to undertake this course.

You will need to complete 12 units of competency, including 1 core unit and 11 elective units. The units cover topics such as communication, workplace innovation, business technology and health and safety.
