Rasha moved from Iraq to Australia with her husband and children a few years ago. She had been a housewife for a very long time and had never worked before. Rasha wanted to build her understanding of work in Australia, so she began studying a BSB20120 Certificate II in Workplace Skills with MTC Australia’s Vocational Education & Training (VET) program earlier this year.
Since English is her second language, Rasha found the vocabulary used in the course quite difficult and the process of learning about the Australian workforce became a bit of a challenge. Never one to be discouraged, Rasha talked with her teacher, asked her Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) support trainer questions, and used Google translate to help her understand the course materials.
As she did, Rasha was able to deepen her knowledge of work in Australia and what policies, principles, and practices are involved. The more she learned, the more motivation Rasha found.
She said that thanks to the support she received from her VET and SEE trainers, her motivation improved and she found the confidence to run her own grocery store!
Rasha has opened a family-owned grocery store called “Sedra’s Groceries” in Liverpool.
Congratulations, Rasha. Your transformation to a full-time business owner in such a short amount of time is a huge achievement.
